About this photo: For me, this photo represents a journey into a world where we give up the third dimension and find new dimensions. From the ground, it was a valley between two mountains surrounding a river flowing through a wild landscape of mountainous terrain in the interior of Iceland. But from above, the mountains disappear, their dimension is lost, and a new world opens up. A two-dimensional landscape that is suddenly not about mountain ranges and imposing canyons, but about surfaces, colours and rhythms. This dimensional shift used to be a difficult journey for me, and I used to get lost in it until I learned to completely switch from my original idea of where I am right now and let the new world come to me - it's the sheer joy of discovering another dimension of the world that is created, paradoxically, just by taking one dimension away. There was also a lot about colour here. I found this colourful clash of two worlds, where winter and non-winter intermingle, visually and emotionally powerful. For me, it's a reminder of how incredibly colourful and full the world can be, even in those moments when we don't expect it. Behind the scenes: Interestingly, I learned later that there apparently was an obsidian field a real close to this place. I was very keen on finding some obsidians in Iceland and I'm sure that had I known that, I woudln't have time to spend in this valley. So - in a way my ignorance was lucky and we can have this photo!
